February Prayer Requests

More mentors & receptionists.  We continually have more clients than mentors to meet with them and receptionists to be there with the mentors.

Pray for 'G', who is financially, emotionally and spiritually stuck in non-action.  She has many obstacles in her life that appear insurmountable and require great energy and drive to overcome.  She needs a job/school to begin to make advances in her life.  She needs a ride to church- but also the courage and grace to attend church.

Pray for 'T', who is going through a very difficult marriage situation.  She needs reinforcing of her security in Christ in this very real emotional turmoil that she's in.  She also needs a safe place to live as well as resources to stand on her own.

Pray for 'N', who has recently been 'softened' to the gospel and eternal truths of life due to a death in her immediate family.  She has taken a break from mentoring due to her grief.  Pray that she will return to NB once she is ready to take on life again.  Pray for her salvation and comfort in her grief.

•Continue praying for cribs (that don't have drop sides) and other donations, esp. layette items.

• PTL- We have found someone from Hope who would be willing to pilot a 6 week young (high school/college age) moms' group to re-establish them in their faith.  Please pray for God's leading as the pilot is being planned.

• PTL Brittany's mentor has offered to drive her to church- but sickness and schedules have gotten in the way.  Please pray that she would indeed be able to attend church every week and spiritually grow.

February's Featured Story

What would you gain by volunteering at New Beginnings?

Read Brenda Janco's story and see how her life has been affected by giving her time and talents to this ministry...

"After retiring from 30 years of teaching, I was looking for a ministry where I could use my organizational and leadership gifts.  When I started in 2009 as the office manager at New Beginnings, I thought that I would just be keeping the schedule, managing office supplies, training receptionists and doing general office duties.  However, God had more in mind for me!  I have gained empathy and compassion for the ladies and babies that come through our doors.  God has also given me a real gift of prayer for the women and their children, and a real concern for both their physical and spiritual needs.  I have grown in my own spiritual life by praying for our clients.  I pray God will continue to teach me to love and show compassion for those who enter the Neighborhood Resource Center."

New Beginnings is a mentoring outreach of Hope Church.  Although all who qualify are welcome, we work primarily with single parents or cohabiting women (and occasionally with their male partners) who usually live in generational poverty and often have abusive or neglectful backgrounds.

Working with clients from the time they are pregnant until their children are 3 years old, we mentor the clients bi-weekly, showing God's love to them and working through curriculum that fits their specific needs.  We are able to assist them with their parenting, personal and spiritual needs in the following ways:

• Educational training to encourage healthy parenting techniques.

• Meeting material needs as they buy diapers, clothes and other items from the attached shop.  They earn 'Mommy Money' from their completed lessons.

• Emotional support as the clients and mentors develop relationships that can grow outside of the meeting times.

• Spiritual outreach as our primary focus is to open opportunities to witness about Jesus and disciple the clients as appropriate.

New Beginnings is fully volunteer run and we depend on donations (that are carefully sorted and checked) to supply the attached shop.  We are especially in need of diapers as they are the most 'bought' item.  We give out layettes to the clients after their baby is born, much to the client's delight.  We welcome you to come, visit and see what God is doing.  Please call us (563-557-3774) to find out our hours and to get directions.  Please read more about this ministry and see how you can pray, donate and get involved.

"Father to the fatherless, defender of widows- this is our God, whose dwelling is holy."  Psalm 68:5 Walking into the lives of these needy women and their children is a reminder of God's compassion towards them.  It is a delight to serve Him by sharing His goodness and love through this ministry.
