May's Prayer Requests

1.  Keep praying for 'K', who had a 4 lb premie and moved in with her dad and abusive step mom.  Pray for safety for both her and her baby.  There is a Hope family who has offered to take her in, pray for her to be open to this offer! Since she's been abused, it's hard for her to trust new people.

2.  Keep praying for 'A', who had a baby in Dec and whose husband is quite verbally abusive. They are now being evicted from their home.  Pray for a new home and finances to pay for it.  'A' is very close to becoming a Christian!  She is learning a lot about shame-free parenting and growing emotionally!!

3. Continue to pray for 'M', who you've prayed for in regards to her bitterness from a very hurtful past.  She recently miscarried at 14 weeks.  Pray for healing from the miscarriage (physically and emotionally) and for her to find that God is still good- even in the hurt.

4. Continue to pray for 'KL', who has a difficult 2 year old.  She needs courage and wisdom in disciplining and laying boundaries as a parent.

5.  Please pray for 'J', a married client who is living in domestic violence.  Pray for safety and for her to get needed help as well as salvation.

6.  You prayed for AS last month- a former client with a baby.  She has made a hard but wise decision to place the baby in foster care.  The mentors were very worried about her parenting.  Pray for this hard transition and for the baby to be placed in a wonderful, loving home.

7. We are still very low on all clothes, cribs, etc!  Please pray for many people to donate!!

8. Our client numbers continue to be low.  Pray that God will bring clients whose hearts are ready to learn and are open to Him.

9.  We need mentors who can volunteer in the evening since some clients aren't available during the day.

April/May Feature Story

But the greatest of these is Love....

Recently one of New Beginnings' mentors introduced her client to another NB volunteer.  The volunteer recognized the client's name and shared that she's been praying for her.  That dear client started crying because she was so touched by all the people at NB who care about her.  Her mentor asked her if she'd ever had anyone really love her.  She said, "no, not really."  Then after a long pause she added, "maybe my Grandma."  What a blessings it is to 'love on' these young women who have experience so little love in their lives and show them how Jesus can change their lives!  Please keep praying for them and loving them.

New Beginnings is a mentoring outreach of Hope Church.  Although all who qualify are welcome, we work primarily with single parents or cohabiting women (and occasionally with their male partners) who usually live in generational poverty and often have abusive or neglectful backgrounds.

Working with clients from the time they are pregnant until their children are 3 years old, we mentor the clients bi-weekly, showing God's love to them and working through curriculum that fits their specific needs.  We are able to assist them with their parenting, personal and spiritual needs in the following ways:

• Educational training to encourage healthy parenting techniques.

• Meeting material needs as they buy diapers, clothes and other items from the attached shop.  They earn 'Mommy Money' from their completed lessons.

• Emotional support as the clients and mentors develop relationships that can grow outside of the meeting times.

• Spiritual outreach as our primary focus is to open opportunities to witness about Jesus and disciple the clients as appropriate.

New Beginnings is fully volunteer run and we depend on donations (that are carefully sorted and checked) to supply the attached shop.  We are especially in need of diapers as they are the most 'bought' item.  We give out layettes to the clients after their baby is born, much to the client's delight.  We welcome you to come, visit and see what God is doing.  Please call us (563-557-3774) to find out our hours and to get directions.  Please read more about this ministry and see how you can pray, donate and get involved.

"Father to the fatherless, defender of widows- this is our God, whose dwelling is holy."  Psalm 68:5 Walking into the lives of these needy women and their children is a reminder of God's compassion towards them.  It is a delight to serve Him by sharing His goodness and love through this ministry.
