Are You Ready?

Sing with me, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year!”

Soon we’ll be putting away leftover turkey, dragging out boxes of decorations and pulling up our Christmas playlists.  Our houses will be filled with the smell of baking cut out cookies, we’ll receive greetings from loved ones we don’t get to see enough and be reminded just how full our lives are; we have so much to be grateful for!  So much to do and so much to enjoy…

Yes, there is so much to do and so much to enjoy!  But there is more…so much more…

When I was young my mom gave my brother and I those advent calendars with the doors hiding the pieces of chocolate, then as we got older it was just cheesy pictures inside the doors, but that child’s play began the tradition of anticipation, of waiting, of wonder.  It’s all just a foreshadowing, a glimpse if you will (1 Cor 13:12, James 1:17)…

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”  John 1:1-5

Advent is meant to remind us: He is coming! The One who is the most solid hope we could ever build our lives on, the maker of a peace so permanent it can never be taken away, the giver of love so constant it is a source of breath. He is coming in an act of such creativity and impossibility it shouts to us His light will never be contained and He will never be completely understood. The season of Advent reminds us God had a plan, God has a plan and He will accomplish it (Isaiah 51:5, 55:11).  If that doesn’t call us to worship Him, I don’t know what could!

So yes, come worship Him this advent season.  Make time for your King; make time to respond to what He has done for, in and through you. Come with anticipation!  I promise you, He is still working today.  I can’t think of a better time of year to invite a friend and introduce them to Jesus. This truly is the most wonderful time of the year.

“…the people living in darkness have seen a great light, on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”  Matt 4:16, Isaiah 9:2

Happy Advent!
